Alcohol, drugs and live music have been connected for longer than any of us have been in the industry. But there’s a flip side to music's party element we shouldn’t ignore. Drug deaths, violence, sexual assault and substance dependency are all very real issues in an industry that so often runs on pills and booze.
The issue becomes more complex when we consider legality. Most festivals are crawling with drug dogs, yet kids still die from taking bad drugs or too many of them. Despite the protests of doctors, lobby groups and families of the deceased, drug testing is all but banned across the country.
